Ebay shares soared last week after Meta allowed listings on Facebook's Marketplace in the US and Europe.
Speaker A:According to CNBC, shares of eBay jumped 9% on Wednesday as Meta said it will allow some listings to show up on Facebook Marketplace.
Speaker A:The rollout will begin with a test in Germany, France, and the U.S.
Speaker A:the partnership could provide a boost to ebay's marketplace business, which has struggled to compete with e commerce rivals like Amazon, Walmart, and Temu.
Speaker A:Chris, do you agree with the market's reaction to ebay selling through Facebook Marketplace?
Speaker B:Yeah, I do.
Speaker B:Yep.
Speaker B:A hundred percent.
Speaker B:I do.
Speaker B:I don't have a lot to say on this one either.
Speaker B:I'm going to keep it quick and turn.
Speaker B:Turn the microphone over to you.
Speaker B:But I think it's.
Speaker B:I think this is a really smart move on both sides.
Speaker B:I think, you know, on.
Speaker B:On ebay side, it extends their reach very nicely.
Speaker B:And for Facebook Marketplace, too, I think it brings more trust and credibility to the platform.
Speaker A:And me too.
Speaker B:And also you get additional items too, which a marketplace having additional items and, you know, catches more people, catches more eyeballs.
Speaker B:So I think it's clearly a case of one plus one equals three in my mind.
Speaker B:I think this is really smart.
Speaker A:Yeah, I agree.
Speaker A:I think this opportunity really has legs, especially to, I guess, bring people back to ebay.
Speaker A:I don't know if that makes sense, but, like, I think as.
Speaker A:As consumers, like, or introduce, even, like.
Speaker B:I still don't really ever use ebay.
Speaker A:I've never really used it.
Speaker A:Exactly, though.
Speaker A:Exactly.
Speaker A:And again, this gets back to, like, the search game that we were talking about with Best Buy's Marketplace.
Speaker A:Like, you, it.
Speaker A:If I'm going on Facebook Marketplace, which is widely used now by so many people to find everything from furniture to collectibles, you name it.
Speaker A:You know, to be able to have ebay's items plugged in like that, this is already happening so much.
Speaker A:Like, I don't know how much time you spend at Facebook Marketplace, but I go there first for most things.
Speaker B:As little as possible ad as little as possible.
Speaker A:Fair, fair.
Speaker A:I go there for most things, especially, you know, having just.
Speaker B:I know you do.
Speaker A:And so I'm telling you, there's already people who are, you know, doing palms.
Speaker A:Have you heard that?
Speaker A:That acronym, like palms posted on multiple sites.
Speaker A:So, like, already posted on multiple sites.
Speaker A:So, like, you.
Speaker A:The person is posting it on Facebook Marketplace, but they're also posting it on Craigslist.
Speaker A:They're also posting it on ebay.
Speaker A:They're also posting like, this is already happening.
Speaker A:Think of all of the products you could have access to.
Speaker A:If you're just uploading all of your stuff now to ebay and it's just being shot out, it's like podcasting.
Speaker A:Like, you put your.
Speaker A:You upload your one piece of media and now you can put it out to all these channels where all these people can find you.
Speaker A:Like, it' Brilliant.
Speaker A:It just makes so much sense.
Speaker A:Ebay's already got this whole system locked in and ready to go, and you already have easier accessibility to things like shipping and shipping labels, taking that work out of it for you.
Speaker A:So I think the most important thing here is just, you know, making sure that that infrastructure is in place so that the customer experience is seamless, because people are going to, you know, be one and done with this if it's not working the right way the first time.
Speaker A:So that's the only thing that I think is the watch out here is.
Speaker B:Is people get angry on those Facebook groups.
Speaker B:We were talking about that at dinner yesterday.
Speaker B:Yeah, those Facebook groups look out, especially those Facebook bomb groups.
Speaker B:They get a hold of something, they're going to tear it apart.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Oh, my God.
Speaker A:I did make some notes for you, Chris, on other things that they're talking about.
Speaker A:Handyman recommendations.
Speaker A:There's a lot of things we can talk about.
Speaker B:Oh, God.
Speaker B:I don't.
Speaker B:I don't even want to know.
Speaker B:I don't even want to.
Speaker B:Maybe I do, but I don't.
Speaker B:I don't, but I do.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:That's the power of social media.
Speaker B:You don't want to know, but you really do.
Speaker A:Right?
